It may not have walkable farms, but implements drop points randomly generated AI (so it's a unique strategy each game) as well as a bunch of other changes. It's a great tool, unfortunately not compatible with Upatch. All the changes were bug fixes by Upatch, if you really want an improvement on the AI and a more DE like feel I highly suggest you check out RockNRor by Chab. He hasn't updated, to my knowledge, the AI in any way.

Something to add to that, is I don't think AoE: DE was big enough to sell on and promote the Windows Store platform, if they wanted AoE: DE to do well they should've released it on Steam as well, most of the issues with DE not working were do to with Windows Store or a Windows update anyway, something that could've been avoided, or at least better if released on Steam (AoE 2: HD & AoM didn't have very clean releases either though, which were both on steam).Īs much as I love people modding AoE1, I must inform you that all Patrick would seem like it has done, is replace the difficulty levels to sound more ancient warlike. The FE team are perfectly capable of fixing some of the issues you've mentioned but they won't be able to because DE wasn't successful. Unfortunately, I don't see DE being what is meant to be. I do agree, that what you suggested would've been a great way to remaster AoE.
I would have accepted distribution of Upatch on Windows Store, some may not have, but I would've. Yes, when it came to Definitive Edition, it was a huge failure and yes, in hindsight it was too ambitious.
There were not a lot of Vietnamese players interested in these tournaments in the first place, I think they maxed at 10,000 viewers, which is below the average for a GameTV streamed tournament. There might be more tournaments in the future but there might not be. There was a small following on Definitive Edition and even some AoE2 Vietnamese players performed well in these tournaments. GameTV, a Vietnamese esport team, were the only ones to host any sort of tournament.
They don't like walkable farms, they use prebuilt buildings as obstacles to slow down retreating units, they would want as little change as possible.

The problem is, they are overlooked and it's very difficult to cater to, what is AoE1's largest fan base, as they still use patch 1.0 with Shang 35 food Villager cost and more importantly, the Farm Bug, which allows you to abuse a glitch to have infinite food. Tieu Thuy Ngu on a youtube live stream, others watched on other channels with about 1,000 – 10,000 viewers. 60,000 watched a tournament game between two players, I believe Chim Se Di Nang vs. In Vietnam, they have a huge following and it's surprising how huge it is. and others in the west like Hostile clan and some players from zone/voobly. Some do exist in Japan, with players like DoctoralMario, Imtlias, etc. Something that people never really touch on, are Age of Empires fans. But he's too busy working for FE/MS now.) It's a shame aoe_scout hasn't updated Upatch HD with a DE update. (I also don't agree with how 5th Legacy balanced RoR and love what DE did with it. I wouldn't except this as an official replacement to Definitive Edition itself, as it changes too much. But the 5th Legacy goes beyond Age of Empires, adding roads, slaves, etc. If they did all the balance changes, made building placements walkable, farms walkable and all of that, I would have prefered it.

Something that's been looked over for many years now.ĥth Legacy is a great mod and Patrick has put a lot of work into the mod but I don't think it'll be something that I would have prefered as to Definitive Edition. Great video, really appreciate that you're looking at age of empires mods.

This was streamed at where subs can watch the stream archive early. We continue to search for Age of Empires Definitive Edition alternatives and here’s the original AoE 1 with Upatch HD and the 5th Legacy mod! It even has walkable farms like AoE DE and new civilizations and graphics.
